The Cairngorms National Park is a dream destination for nature and wildlife lovers. The local woods just opposite Ardconnel House are home to red squirrel, roe deer, pine marten and birds such as capercaillie, scottish crossbill and crested tit. Up in the hills you can watch red deer, mountain hare, golden eagle, snow bunting, dotterell, grouse and ptarmigan. Ospreys nest every spring and summer at nearby Loch Garten and can be viewed from the RSPB visitor centre there. (see ‘helpful links’ page).

May sees the Annual Cairngorms Nature Big Weekend with lots of events taking place within a short drive from Ardconnel House – many of them free of charge.  Check the website for the latest information.

The Grant Arms hotel in town organise wildlife talks and tours and specialise in birdwatching. Other local wildlife tour operators include Speyside Wildlife and you can connect to these web-sites from our ‘helpful links’ page (above).
