Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival

From Friday 15 to Sunday 24 June 2018, whether it’s a gentle amble or an outdoor challenge there’s something for everyone in this year’s Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival.  Voted one of the top 10 walking festival in Britain by The Daily Telegraph the festival also offers a whole lot more!   From rowing to writing and surfing to cycling plus events that uncover the cultural, historical, archaeological, architectural, natural and landscape heritage of Moray.  All events are held close to Grantown-on-Spey and the Cairngorms National Park.

Polar Bear Cub born in the Cairngorms!

Exciting news – a baby polar bear was born at the Highland Wildlife Park, the first in the UK for 25 years!  Born in December, the cub has taken its first steps into the outdoor enclosure and has recently been confirmed to be a male. Entry to the Park is limited so please book in advance to avoid disappointment. Walking in the Cairngorms

If you love walking Grantown-on-Spey has fantastic  options right on the doorstep.  Step across the road from Ardconnel House and you find yourself in Anagach Woods which has a network of forest paths that wind through some of the most impressive woodland in the UK. From the viewpoint you can see the entire Cairngorms Range. The Grantown-on-Spey Paths leaflet gives you details on 8 walks including maps and further information about the area.

Portraits of a Highland Clan

Grantown Museum Gallery is showing a special exhibition: ‘I Richard Waitt, Picture Drawer: Portraits of a Highland Clan (1713-1733).  A unique opportunity to see what is recognised as the biggest ever single commission of family portraits in 18th century Europe.  Commissioned by Brigadier General Alexander Grant of Grant of Grant Castle it brings together a number of paintings no0t only of the Laird’s family but also his servants, bards and ministers – providing a snap shot of life in the Highlands 300 years ago at the time of the Jocobites.  The exhibition brings this unique collection of paintings home to Grantown – showing from 22nd July – 31st October sponsored by Bohnams.
