The local business association has identified their top 16 things to do in the Cairngorms National Park and invite you to let VisitCairngorms know what you’d add!  Our recommendation is some fantastic golf followed by a ‘wee dram’ from our Speyside Whisky selection. The Cairngorms National Park is closer than you think, and with the Caledonian Sleeper you can literally go to bed in the city and wake up in paradise.  After your journey come to  Ardconnel House and make the most of your stay … check out our accommodation page to see which room best meets your needs.

Events 2016

Events in 2016

2016 sees the Cairngorms National Park host the UKs first resort based snow sports festival – Groove Cairngorm! The weekend festival will be held from 11-13 March 2016 in conjunction with Cairngorm Mountain involving snow sports and entertainment each day up on the mountain followed by apres-ski with live music and world class DJs until the early hours in a big top in Aviemore!  With snow already on the hills the ski-season is expected to be a cracker.

Winter also sees the annual Husky Racing at Aviemore – a truly remarkable site with hundreds of sleds powered by teams of dogs racing along side the beautiful Loch Morlich.  This year the event takes place 23  & 24 January 2016.

Spring brings the Spirit of Speyside Whiskey Festival  from 28 April until 2nd May 2016 followed by the Cairngorms Nature Festival on 14 & 15 May – well worth keeping on eye on what is planned as details become available.

Plus there are the regular Summer favourites – the Grantown Show on 11 August and Grantown Games on 28 August.  The annual Thunder in the Glen takes place from 26 – 29 of August and all the wonderful walks, wildlife and cycling that is available all year round !

We hope to see you in the Highlands in 2016 – do come and visit us if you can.

Winter in the Cairngorms

First snow of the season has arrived just as the Grantown Christmas lights were switched on last Friday.  Snow covered hills and forest paths means wildlife and their tracks are easier to spot.  Just across the road from Ardconnel House you can often see deer, golden eye, dippers, red squirrels and if you are very lucky Capercaillie!
