150 Years ago. Arrival of The Railway

2013 is the 150th anniversary of the arrival of trains into Grantown on Spey. in 1863 the line from Perth to Forres was opened and trains stopped at Grantown West for the first time. Grantown will be marking the occasion with some celebrations in August and events throughout the year. Grantown had another Station (East) on the line from Aviemore towards Aberlour and Dufftown. Can you imagine two railway stations in Grantown? The Strathspey Steam Railway operates on the original section of line between Aviemore and Broomhill and there are plans to extend this line back into Grantown.
